Jewish Sports Medicine Healthy Lifestyle Training Program

Sponsored By Jewish Sports Medicine

The first meeting of the Jewish Sports Medicine Healthy Lifestyle Training Program will take place January 10, at 6 p.m. at a NEW LOCATION - Butch Charmoli Gym at duPont Manual High School. This free 15-week program is intended to benefit runners training for the Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon Presented By Walmart on April 28, 2012. The program will give runners an opportunity to talk with professionals regarding nutrition, training tips, injury prevention and education.

The Training Program meeting will include distribution of a free training packet and technical shirt for each runner; introduction of the training program medical director, athletic trainers and nutritionists; an overview of the miniMarathon and Marathon; guest speakers and a question-and-answer session.  (First 800 pre-registered and who attend orientation on Jan. 10 are guaranteed a FREE technical shirt.)

In 2011, George Lindsey of 102.3 The MAX hosted the program and he'll be joining us again in 2012.  Guest speakers have included Michelle Eckhart, registered dietician from Jewish Hospital; Mike Campbell, Jewish Sports Medicine certified athletic trainer; and Dr. Jonathan Becker, the training program medical director.

Runners may register for the Training Program online at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com.  A pre-meeting run schedule, which includes weekly Saturday morning runs, may also be found on the race website. The deadline to sign up for the Training Program is Jan. 31.  The Training Program is sponsored by Jewish Sports Medicine with contributing sponsors Swag's Sport Shoes and 102.3 The Max.

The 39th annual 13.1-mile Derby Festival miniMarathon will be held in conjunction with the eleventh annual Derby Festival Marathon, starting at 7:30 a.m. on Main Street near Slugger Field to Preston & Witherspoon Streets finish at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront.  Both races will once again run a lap around the infield track at historic Churchill Downs.

Participants may also register for the Derby Festival miniMarathon or Marathon Presented By Walmart  online at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com.    Early race registration fees are $50 for the 13.1-mile mini and $65 for the 26.2-mile Marathon if entered online or postmarked by Nov. 30, 2011.
