Are the bed bugs after you? Let's hope so, because it's time for the Stock Yards Bank Derby Festival Great Bed Races. An event where you can grab four of your favorite co-workers and race to bed - in a zany kinda way.

A variety of decked-out beds will take to the track at Broadbent Arena competing for the fastest times on Monday, April 26. The five-person teams dress in wild and crazy costumes to compete in this wacky task. No sleeping allowed! Thousands of bed-racing enthusiasts gather to cheer on their favorite beds.

In 2009, 47 teams pushed decorated beds on wheels around the track, competing for the fastest times and best decorations. The Curtain Call Photo Booth team unseated the Ford team after an eight-year run and the Holdaway Medical teams' creativity and speed dominated the "Champions" and "Fun" divisions at Broadbent Arena. A crowd of more 5,000 fans came to cheer on their favorite beds in the 20th annual competition. The theme of last year's Bed Races was "Asleep at the Wheel," with competitors donning their favorite bedtime costumes. The Champions Division showcased some of the event's most veteran competitors and the Dormitory outside Broadbent Arena served as a staging and tailgating area.

Prizes went to the teams with the three fastest times in the Champions and Fun Divisions and the "Best Decorated Bed," "Most Entertaining" and "People's Choice" categories. The People's Choice Award returned for the fourth year in a row, with attendees paying to cast their vote. A total of  $768 was raised in voting, with half the money going to the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation and half to the charity of the winning team's choice.

"Competing in this event is just too much fun," says competitor Bob Johnson "It really brings a feeling of team-spirit among your co-workers."

This crazy event has grown in popularity since its maiden run in 1990 and is the most fun you can have outdoors in your pajamas.

Divisions and Awards

The Bed Races will consist of 2 divisions.  The Fun division will be a 600 feet division for all Beds wishing to get in on the Fun!  Any bed team that raced the previous year's race in under 30 seconds (per 600 feet) will automatically be placed in the Champions division.  This division will also race 600 feet. If you don't qualify for the Champions Division, but know you can beat that Divisions best time.  Please do, and we'll award you an extra prize for doing so.

Award Categories:

• Champions Division (for serious bed racers) - 1st, 2nd, 3rd
• Fun Division (just for the heck of it) - 1st, 2nd, 3rd
• Decoration and Entertainment Awards: 1st place per
• Best Decorated (Adherence to Theme)
• Most Entertaining
• People's Choice Award The Public will be given a chance to voice their opinion.  For $1 a vote, fans can place a vote for their favorite bed.  Proceeds raised will be donated to 2 local charities.  Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation and will be donated to the 501C3 Charity chosen by the winning bed team. 

The First place from each of the 5 divisions will be invited to participate in the Pegasus Parade on Thursday, April 29, 2010.

107.7 WSFR personalities will host the awards. On air personalities from WAVE TV will anchor the live coverage from every angle, from the crowd to the pits.

The Dormitory area will open at 11:30 a.m. to tailgate and make a complete fun filled day.  If you're interested in a little bit of practice before the big race, we will also have practice runs throughout the day.  So come on out, bring your friends and co-workers and have a great time!
