The U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Tour on April 22 at Charlie Vettiner Park will kick off the 2010 BalloonFest activities. Last year's Great Balloon Tour was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The inaugural event in 2006 attracted hundreds of spectators to Shawnee Park. Fifteen balloons lifted off around 6pm for about a half-hour flight. The balloons landed in various locations including West Louisville, Shively, the Iroquois Park area and Outer Loop.
This new balloon event was added to the Festival schedule in 2006 to give patrons a preview of the balloon events to come. The event will take place in a different location each year.
