The Kentucky Derby Festival is pleased to announce the theme for the 2010 Derby Festival -"Spring Fever Reliever." The theme was released TODAY at 9 a.m. to members of the Kentucky Derby Festival Official Group on Facebook. The members of the group will also get the first look at various components of the theme throughout the day and how it will be incorporated into the 2010 Derby Festival. The theme was created through a collaboration between the Festival and CurrentMarketing, the Festival's advertising agency, and will be reflected in the KDF corporate logo for 2010, which features a bright green and orange color scheme.

The "Spring Fever Reliever" theme celebrates the Festival's annual role in providing unique entertainment for a community that is waiting restlessly for the return of warmer weather and outdoor activities. The theme will be incorporated into many of the Derby Festival's 70 events, including: Stock Yards Bank Great Bed Races ("Non-Drowsy Formula"); WineFest ("Here's To Your Health!"); Marathon/minMarathon Presented by Walmart ("Our Runners Are Just Built Differently"); U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest ("Daytime/ Nighttime Relief"); AT&T Spring Fashion Show ("Fashion Fever"); King Southern Bank Pro-Am Golf Tournament ("We're Predicting a Sick Day!"); and Student Art Contest ("Warning: May Cause Excessive Creativity"), among others.

"As spring approaches, the entire community is yearning for the opportunity to shake off the winter doldrums and embrace the excitement of getting outside again," said Mike Berry, Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO. "The Kentucky Derby Festival has been the perfect antidote for that condition for more than 50 years - it's a rite of spring that is anticipated by both young and old. We look forward to once again providing a welcome relief for those suffering from spring fever and all of its ailments."

"Spring Fever Reliever" will be featured prominently in advertising, as well as traditional components of the Derby Festival, such its website (www.derbyfestival.org) and Pegasus Pins. The "Spring Fever" advertising typeface reflects the joy of springtime, while the "Reliever" stamp references the icon used on medical documents. A new Festival personality, "Dr. Derby,"will also make appearances in the Festival's 2010 TV and radio ad campaign, dressed in medical scrubs and handing out prescriptions to promote "Spring Fever Relief."

"Next year's Derby Festival promises to be a tonic for all those in search of an end to cabin fever and the traditional events that make springtime in our community so special and enticing," said Berry. "We wanted to try a novel way to announce this year's theme, and we're very excited about the buzz it has created on social media networks such as Facebook."

The Derby Festival began integrating social media into its enhanced website in 2009 with Facebook, Twitter, RSS Feeds for news, Youtube and Flickr.
