The contest, which is presented by Passport Health Plan, currently has participants from public, private and parochial school students in Jefferson and Oldham counties, as well as Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana. Other counties are welcome to participate. Please contact the KDF office if your school is interested in participating. Students not currently enrolled in art classes at their school may also create artwork at home, but entries must follow all contest criteria and be submitted by the art teacher or another appropriate staff person at the school.
Entries in the Derby Festival Student Art Contest - presented by Passport Health Plan - will be judged by three arts professionals from the community. The winners of the contest in six divisions will be presented medallions, certificates and a Derby Festival Student Art Contest Winner's Pin; first-place winners will receive a 2010 Derby Festival framed poster. The winners will also have their artwork displayed at the Your Community Bank Derby Festival Poster Premiere and Student Art Awards Ceremony in January, 2010. All winners will receive complimentary tickets to the Poster Premiere for themselves and two guests. Teachers of award-winning students will also be invited to the ceremony and will receive special recognition.
The 2010 Student Art Contest is presented by Passport Health Plan. The Festival has offered this opportunity for area students to showcase their creative skills since 1977. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation. It entertains more than 1.5 million people in a two- week period and has a local economic impact of more than $90 million. This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
