The Kentucky Derby Festival, Inc., Board of Directors elected James A. "Ja" Hillebrand as Chair of the 2011 Festival at its annual meeting on June 15 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Hillebrand is President of Stock Yards Bank and Trust Co. He follows the successful leadership of Leslie Broecker, President of Broadway Across America's Midwest Region, who will continue serving as Immediate Past Chair of the Derby Festival.

"I'm very excited to be leading the Kentucky Derby Festival's staff, board and 4,000 volunteers," said Hillebrand. "As a native of Louisville, the Derby Festival gave me so many wonderful memories growing up. I've always felt it was my duty to give back to the people who helped provide those memories."

Hillebrand was first elected to the Derby Festival Board in 2004 and has been a member of the KDF Executive Board since 2006. He has served on the Festival's event committee for the Stock Yards Bank Great Bed Races, Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, Basketball Classic, Republic Bank Parade Preview Party and Marathon/miniMarathon. He is also a board member of the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation, the Derby Festival's charitable arm.

Michael E. Berry continues as President and CEO of the Festival. Wendy Jacob, Vice President/Regional Employment Manager, BB&T., was elected Chair-Elect and Chris Whelan, Director of Communications and Brand Management, E.ON U.S., was elected Vice Chair. David Nett, Customer Communications Manager, The Kroger Company., was elected Treasurer; Trish Osborn, Senior Vice President, American Founders Bank, was elected Secretary.

Elected to the Festival's Executive Board were: Harry Dennery, Food Service Solutions; Norma Oberst, Oberst Corporation; Chris Padgett; Wes Rutledge, Hilliard Lyons; Michael Sadofsky, Republic Bank; Todd Schumacher, Cox Radio, Inc.; Mike Shea, Public Affairs Strategies; Lisa Stevenson, Dupont Manual High School; Suzann Thompson; and Robert C. White, Louisville Metro Police Department.

Joining the 75-member board as newly elected directors were: Mike Coomes, Papa John's International; Merilyn S. Coslow; Jenny Jacob, The Fillies, Inc.; Bob Mack, WAVE 3 TV;  Barry Oxley, Boy Scouts of America-Lincoln Heritage Council; Stacy Serad, Humana, Inc.; Trisha Wolf Smith, University of Louisville; and Marita Willis, PNC Bank.

The Kentucky Derby Festival, Inc., is a private, not-for-profit corporation served by a professional staff of 22 and governed by a 75-volunteer board. The Festival's 70 events entertain more than 1.5 million people annually.
