Registration for the 2010 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon, presented by Walmart, is now open online at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com. At this time, race organizers plan to cap entries at 12,000 participants for the April 24 event. With more than 1,000 runners already registered for next year's races, the entry cap is expected to be reached earlier than ever before. Last year's field was closed in March, with no late entries available, so participants are urged to sign up early.

The 2010 Marathon and mini will feature several new enhancements. All runners will receive sweat-wicking "technical" t-shirts at packet pickup, which will be held April 22-23 at the Kentucky International Convention Center. In addition, runners will receive a limited edition race poster, complimentary admission to the Derby Festival's entertainment venue, Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront, and free admission for two to Churchill Downs on April 24 or 25. Race finishers will receive a finisher's medal, official finisher's certificate, nutritional post-race snacks and a Mylar blanket. Also next year, more age groups prizes will be awarded than in previous years.

The race logo has been changed for 2010, sporting a new look designed by CurrentMarketing, the Derby Festival's advertising agency. Said Derby Festival Race Director Chad Pickering: "With the majority of runners coming from Kentuckiana and a growing number coming from out of town, it was important that the new logo reference one of the features that makes Louisville so special - the Kentucky Derby. In order to give recognition to our city's heritage of horse racing, a horse was incorporated into the mark. A horseshoe, used in past year's logos, was also used in the design. In addition, the wings of the Festival's Pegasus mark are also incorporated into the design. The overall combination gives the logo motion and a sense of movement; it will be used on all race merchandise and materials for 2010."

The 13.1-mile mini and the 26.2-mile Marathon will start simultaneously on April 24th near Iroquois Park as 12,000 runners are expected to take part in the largest annual day of road racing in Kentucky. Race registration fees are $50 for the 13.1-mile mini and $65 for the 26.2-mile Marathon if entered online or postmarked by Jan. 31, 2010. From Feb. 1 to March 31, entry fees are $60 for the mini and $85 for the Marathon; late entry fees at the Race Expo (April 22 and 23) are $75 and $100 (if registration is still open). Registration for the races is open now at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com. The race route will once again include a lap around the infield at historic Churchill Downs; Marathon runners will also complete a short loop in Southern Indiana before returning to downtown Louisville at about Mile 24.

Since 1956, the Derby Festival has worked to bring the community together in celebration. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation.  It entertains more than 1.5 million people in a two- week period and has a local economic impact of more than $90 million.  This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
