The Kentucky Derby Festival is pleased to announce that country music chart-topper Rodney Atkins will headline the Festival's Derby Eve on Friday, April 30, at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. The concert, which is sponsored by Kentucky Proud, will begin at 8 p.m. with opening act and Kentucky native Candy Coburn. Admission is a 2010 Pegasus Pin. "Kentucky Proud is pleased to continue our involvement with the Kentucky Derby Festival, part of the state's biggest weekend," said Richie Farmer, Kentucky's Commissioner of Agriculture. "I'm excited about the concert, and I invite all of Kentucky to attend." Contributing sponsors of the event are New Country Q103.1 and Country Legends 103.9.

Atkins has recorded five singles that reached No. 1 on the Billboard country music charts, including "It's America," which reached the top spot in May, 2009. His other No. 1 hits are: "If You're Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)"; "Watching You,"; "These Are My People," and "Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)." Atkins' second album, "If You're Going Through Hell," was released in 2006 and was certified platinum in the United States. Both "If You're Going Through Hell" and "Watching You" were named as the Number One country song of the year by Billboard in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

Said Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO Mike Berry: "We're thrilled that Kentucky Proud is bringing country music superstar Rodney Atkins to entertain the audience at another Derby Eve Jam concert. Rodney is one of the hottest country music acts in the country and his show will offer a wonderful way to close out Derby Week - all for the price of a single Pegasus Pin."

Now in its fourth year, Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront is a 500,000-square-foot entertainment venue featuring food and drink concessions, live concerts and children's playground activities, among other attractions. Fest-a-Ville, which is located in Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville, opens Thursday, April 22, and runs through Friday, April 30. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily; Saturday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is a 2010 Pegasus Pin.

Since 1956, the Derby Festival has worked to bring the community together in celebration. The Festival is an independent community organization supported by 4,000 volunteers, 400 businesses and civic groups, Pegasus Pin sponsorships and event participation.  It entertains more than 1.5 million people in a two- week period and has a local economic impact of more than $90 million.  This involvement has made the Festival the largest single attended event in Kentucky and one of the leading community celebrations in the world.
