Thunder to be Broadcast Worldwide

The Kentucky Derby Festival's 2010 Opening Ceremonies - Thunder Over Louisville - will be broadcast on the American Forces Network to more than one million U.S. Armed Forces personnel and Department of Defense civilian employees and their families stationed overseas. The 90-minute program, which features the entire Thunder fireworks show and highlights of the Thunder Air Show, will be shown on July 5 and 11 to personnel stationed overseas in approximately 175 countries and U.S. territories, as well as aboard more than 140 U.S. Navy ships.

WAVE 3 TV, the local NBC affiliate, exclusively aired the original Air Show and fireworks coverage on April 17 of this year and has produced the 90-minute edited HD version that will be shown on the American Forces Network in conjunction with Independence Day celebrations.

A 30-minute condensed version of Thunder Over Louisville, with video produced by WAVE 3 TV, will be broadcast by KET. The show will air at the following times:

  • KET: Sunday, July 4, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. EDT

Thunder Over Louisville - the Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies - is one of more than 70 events produced by the Derby Festival in the spring. The 2010 Thunder Over Louisville, themed “Thunder Fever:  May Increase Heart Rate,” was the 21st annual production. The show was sponsored this year by E.ON U.S., Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, Meijer, UPS and community McDonald's Thunder Funders.
